Pinterest Conversions API

This guide walks you through a clear, step-by-step process for implementing the Pinterest Conversions API (CAPI) using server-side Google Tag Manager (sGTM) and TAGGRS. By setting up Pinterest CAPI this way, you gain resilient conversion tracking—protected from browser restrictions and ad blockers—while enabling advanced, privacy-compliant measurement.

Prerequisites

  • Pinterest Tag already installed via GTM.
  • Access to Pinterest Ads Manager and your Pinterest Tag ID.
  • TAGGRS server container deployed.
  • sGTM (server-side Google Tag Manager) access.

Generate your Pinterest API Access token

In Pinterest Ads Manager, go to Conversions > API.
Follow the prompts to generate or retrieve your Access Token.

Configure the CAPI Tag in sGTM

In your sGTM container, go to Tags > New.
Select a Pinterest Conversions API template (from the Community Template Gallery) or configure a Custom HTTP Request tag.
Enter your Pinterest Tag ID and Access Token.
Map event parameters (event name, value, currency, event_id, user_data).
Set up triggers for server-side events (e.g., purchases, sign-ups).

Test and publish

Use sGTM Preview mode and Pinterest’s diagnostics to verify server-side events.
Check for deduplication if you’re sending both client- and server-side events.
