Install LinkedIn Insight Tag

Read this guide to learn the full process for installing the LinkedIn Insights Tag using Google Tag Manager (GTM) and TAGGRS. By leveraging GTM, you can deploy the Insights Tag across your entire website without manual code changes, enabling accurate conversion tracking, powerful retargeting, and data-driven optimization for your LinkedIn ad campaigns.

By implementing the LinkedIn Insights Tag server-side with TAGGRS, your tracking is resilient to browser restrictions and ad blockers, while supporting privacy compliance and first-party data strategies.

Prerequisites

  • Access to your LinkedIn Campaign Manager account.
  • Your website’s Google Tag Manager container.
  • The permissions to publish changes in GTM.

Retrieve your LinkedIn Partner ID

  1. Log in to

    LinkedIn Campaign Manager.

  2. Navigate to Account Assets > Insight Tag.
  3. Choose I will install the tag myself or I will use a tag manager.
  4. Copy your Partner ID (not the full JavaScript snippet—just the numeric ID).

Add the LinkedIn Insights Tag in Google Tag Manager

  1. Log in to Google Tag Manager and select your website’s container.
  2. In the workspace, click Tags > New.
  3. Name your tag (e.g., “LinkedIn Insights Tag”).
  4. Click Tag Configuration.
  5. Select Discover more tag types in the Community Template Gallery.
  6. Search for LinkedIn Insight Tag 2.0 and add it to your workspace.
  7. Enter your Partner ID in the designated field.
  8. Test the LinkedIn Insights Tag Base Code in GTM.

How to test the Linkedin Insights Tag?
Open the preview mode in Google Tag Manager, enter the name of your website and check if the LinkedIn Insights Tag fires.

Set the trigger

  1. Click Triggering.
  2. Select All Pages to fire the tag on every page (recommended for full-site tracking and retargeting). Optionally, use specific triggers for conversion pages if you only want to track certain actions

Save, test, and publish

  1. Click Save to add your tag.
  2. Use GTM Preview mode to verify the tag fires correctly on your site.
  3. Check the tag’s activity in LinkedIn Campaign Manager (under “Signals Manager” or “Insight Tag” status).
  4. Once confirmed, Submit and Publish your GTM container changes.

Configure LinkedIn events

Now that the basic tag is implemented on your website, it is time to configure specific events. We do this by using the triggers set up for the Google Analytics 4 (GA4) e-commerce events.

If you want to create an event, for example to track purchases, create a new tag and again choose the LinkedIn Insights Tag as the configuration. Enter your Partner ID and Conversion IDs and choose your desired trigger, in this case purchase, as the trigger.
Then do this for all the events you want to measure.

Best practices

  • Do not install the Insights Tag on pages that collect or display sensitive health or financial data to comply with LinkedIn’s policies and privacy regulations.
  • Use clear and consistent naming for your GTM tags and triggers for easier management.
  • Regularly monitor tag firing and data collection in LinkedIn Campaign Manager to ensure ongoing accuracy.
  • For advanced setups (such as server-side event forwarding, deduplication, or custom triggers), refer to additional TAGGRS documentation.

Troubleshooting

Tag not firing
Check trigger configuration and ensure Partner ID is correct
Data not appearing in LinkedIn
Confirm tag is published and test with GTM Preview mode
Duplicate events
Use specific triggers to avoid firing the tag multiple times
