Configure Billy Grace Server-side Tracking

This guide explains how to configure Billy Grace server-side tracking using TAGGRS and Google Tag Manager (GTM). You can choose to save time by using our prebuilt template or set it up manually—whichever suits your workflow. By following these steps, you'll collect high-quality, GDPR-compliant first-party data, overcome browser restrictions and ad blockers, and unlock the full potential of Billy Grace’s AI-driven marketing optimization. The result? Robust, future-proof analytics and improved campaign performance.

Before you dive deeper, mind that Billy Grace doesn't support any hybrid setup (client- AND server-time). So deliberately choose a server-side-only configuration.

Option 1: Configuration with TAGGRS templates

  1. Go to

    TAGGRS template gallery.

  2. Download the Billy Grace server-side template JSON from the TAGGRS dashboard.
  3. Import the template into your Google Tag Manager server container.
  4. Configure variables.
  • Fill in required fields such as your Billy Grace Tracking ID.
  • Map custom variables as needed for your events.

Review your configuration, save, and publish the container. The pre-built templates are developed by our Server-side Tracking Experts to reduce setup time and minimizes errors. For advanced use cases, proceed with manual configuration.

Option 2: Manual configuration

Set up a GTM server container

Deploy a new server container in GTM if you haven’t already.

For correct deduplication, configure what follows in the web container:

• Add a Unique Event ID variable to your web container.
• This variable should be sent with each event of the Billy Grace web pixel.

Billy Grace's web tracking container should also forward events to your Server Side GA4 tracking.

The variable {{Unique Event ID}} is specifically associated with the trigger to which it is attached. Make sure that the same triggers are used in both the web and server containers. This is important for correct deduplication.

Create a Billy Grace Server-Side tag

  1. In your GTM server container, add a new tag.
  2. Select Billy Grace – Server Side Tag as the tag type.
  3. Input your Billy Grace Tracking ID.
  4. Set the trigger to the GA4 Client (or relevant server event trigger).

Configure for platform visibility

If you want server-side data to appear in the Billy Grace dashboard, ensure the client-to-server event mapping is correct. Contact the in-app Billy Grace support for assistance with this step.

Use the Billy Grace live debugger to monitor incoming server-side events and verify correct data flow.

Testing and validation

  1. Activate GTM Preview mode for both web and server containers.
  2. Trigger a test event (e.g., page view, purchase) on your website.
  3. Check event IDs:
  • In the web container, copy the event_id for the triggered event.
  • In the server container, inspect outgoing HTTP requests to b.billypix.com and verify the event_id matches.

Confirm deduplication: Matching event IDs in both containers mean that your setup is successful.
