Lightspeed Data Layer App

This guide details the deployment and configuration of the TAGGRS Lightspeed Data Layer App for server-side tracking. It supports comprehensive tracking of customer actions, by structuring collected data from your website so it can be forwarded to tracking platforms such as Google Analytics 4. And all without requiring coding expertise.

Key features

  • Integrates seamlessly with Google Tag Manager
  • Based on the GA4 Data Layer Protocol
  • Fully compatible with server-side tracking and sGTM
  • Supports enhanced conversions
  • Easy, no-code installation for Lightspeed (Ecwid) E-series webshops

Install the TAGGRS Lightspeed Data Layer App

  1. Log in to your Lightspeed (Ecwid) shop and open the app market from your dashboard.
  2. Search for TAGGRS and install the Lightspeed Data Layer App.

Configure the app

  1. Open the app and enter your Google Tag Manager Web Container ID (e.g., GTM-XXXXXXX) in the Google Tag ID field.
  2. (Optional) To use the TAGGRS Enhanced Tracking Script, add your tracking subdomain under Tracking domain. This can match your server container’s subdomain, but it is not required for standard operation.

Select events for your data layer

  1. Choose which customer interaction events you want to capture in the Ecwid data layer. Common events include:

    pageview
    view_item
    add_to_cart
    purchase

    Note:
    ‍
Some events, such as pageview, may already be automatically tracked by Google Tag Manager.
  2. Click Save to store your configuration.

Test the Data Layer in Google Tag Manager

  1. Open your store and enable GTM Preview mode.
  2.  Perform actions (e.g. view a product, add to cart, complete a purchase).
  3. In the GTM preview panel, inspect the data layer to confirm that Lightspeed events are being pushed in a structured format.

Forward data to analytics and marketing platforms

  1. In Google Tag Manager, set up tags and triggers to forward Lightspeed events to your desired platforms (e.g., Google Analytics 4, Meta CAPI, TikTok Events API).
  2. Use the structured data layer to map variables for each event, ensuring accurate and reliable tracking.

Technical benefits

  • No-code installation: No theme edits or manual coding required.
  • GDPR & privacy ready: Supports cookie consent and privacy compliance.
  • Data enrichment: Captures user, product, and order details for every event.
  • Performance: Lightweight app with minimal impact on site speed.
  • Customizability: Developers can extend or customize the data layer as needed using GTM variables and triggers
