Configure ActiveCampaign Server-side Tracking

This guide details the configuration of ActiveCampaign server-side tracking using TAGGRS and Google Tag Manager (GTM). You can choose to save time by using our prebuilt template or set it up manually—whichever suits your workflow. By following these steps, you’ll collect accurate, GDPR-compliant first-party customer data, bypass browser restrictions and ad blockers, and gain deeper behavioral insights for your marketing automation.

What events can you track on the server-side?

  • Form submissions: Track when users complete a signup or contact form
  • Purchases: Record completed transactions in your online store
  • Page views: Monitor which pages users visit
  • Button clicks: Track engagement with CTAs and interactive elements

Option 1: Quick setup with TAGGRS templates

Import TAGGRS templates

  1. Go to the TAGGRS dashboard and select the all platforms combined template.
  2. Download the JSON files and import them into your GTM server container.

Configure the ActiveCampaign tag

  1. In your GTM server container, go to Tags and select the imported ActiveCampaign tag.
  2. Review and adjust the tag settings as needed for your use case.

Set required variables

  1. In the Variables section, add platform-specific codes (such as the TAGGRS Container ID variable).
  2. These variables will be automatically linked to all relevant tags.

Pause or remove unused tags

Disable any tags or triggers you don’t need, such as Cookiebot, to avoid data conflicts or loss.

Option 2: Manual configuration

Add tracking tags

  1. In your GTM server container, create a new tag for ActiveCampaign.
  2. Configure the tag to send data to ActiveCampaign’s endpoint with the required parameters.

Integrate with ActiveCampaign

Ensure the tag is correctly structured to match ActiveCampaign’s API requirements.

Configure triggers

Set up triggers for the events you want to track (e.g., form submissions, purchases).

Test your configuration

  1. Use GTM’s debug mode to verify that events are firing and data is being sent to ActiveCampaign.
  2. Add your server container URL in the container settings for proper routing.

Validate

  1. Enable Preview mode in GTM to test your setup.
  2. Perform test actions (e.g., submit a form, complete a purchase) and confirm these events are forwarded to ActiveCampaign.
  3. Check the data layer to ensure all required event data is present and structured correctly.
